Robots.txt generator. I do not know why but when I was looking for information about a robots.txt file (these were times when I totally did not know anything about robots.txt), Google frequently suggested me in the search box: robots.txt generator. Today I would like to tell you why I believe that using generators to create robots.txt files is completely pointless.
Robots.txt generator – What is this?
These are applications that generate robots.txt files with appropriate content (user-defined commands). The principle of operation is similar to the web pages where you can create charts. The difference is that, in my opinion, it makes no sense to create robots.txt files in the generators.
Robots.txt generator – Why you should not use it?
- You can easily create such a file yourself. I have already described that in principle such a file should be empty. This means that your robots.txt allows search robots to completely crawl everything on your web site. This allows search crawlers to view the entire structure of a web page and render it properly by Google (or other search engines).
- Create a robots.txt file with zero content and upload it to the server – it takes a minute. I wrote in a previous article about the location of the robots.txt file when you have WordPress.
- If you have WordPress – you can use plugins to generate a robots.txt file. Nevertheless, I think the less plugins in WordPress, the more stable and faster the website is. Unless you have such a multifunctional plug-in like Yoast. Then you have to use that plugin anyway. In that case, you simply use the additional function of the WordPress plugin to create robots.txt and manage your robots.txt file.
Should I have a robots.txt file?
I think so. When I check the quality of my website’s SEO through various applications, I often find that the final result depends on having a robots.txt file or not having a robots.txt file. Another my observation: not having a robots.txt file does not affect the work of searching robots (they still can crawl everything on your web site). But as I mentioned – for the correct reading of the SEO results of your web page – it is worth having a robots.txt file to have.
